Meeting Minutes of 13 July 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Society of Sri Lankan Engineers and Scientists in the UK

 

  1. Welcome Speech by President, Mr. Hemantha Fenado:
  • The president gave a brief welcome to all attendees.
  1. Apologies:
  • Apologies received from: Dhanaratne, and Kumar De Siva
  1. The Patron, H.E. Mr. Nimal Senadheera:
  • Expressed appreciation for the society’s efforts, especially in fostering technology bridges between Sri Lanka and the UK.
  • Provided some update the situation in Sri Lanka.
  • Expressed his interest in supporting SSLES
  1. Minutes of the AGM from 13 July 2025:
  • Minutes accepted with no comment raised.
  1. Annual Report and Treasurer’s Report:
  • The Treasurer, Vidyantha Gamage, presented the financial report to the members.
  • Dharshan raised concerns regarding the absence of a detailed expenditure report for the long-outstanding Annual Ball accounts.
  • It was suggested that future financial reports should provide a clear and detailed breakdown of income and expenditure to improve transparency.
  • Following discussion, the members accepted the financial report.
  1. Election of Office Bearers:
  • The General Secretary presented the elected Committee to the Patron, His Excellency Mr Nimal Senadheera.
  • The members of the previous Committee agreed to continue serving, subject to a few minor changes in office bearers.
  • The following office bearers were nominated and duly accepted by the members.

  1. Our vision General Secretary message:
  • Supporting Sri Lanka through initiatives where the Society’s professional expertise and resources can make a meaningful contribution.
  • Continuing financial assistance to disadvantaged students to support their education and development.
  • Mentoring engineering graduates and young professionals to support their professional development and progression towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Undertaking suitable engineering projects for rural communities in Sri Lanka, with particular emphasis on supporting sustainable economic and social development.
  • Strengthening relationships and engagement among the wider membership and Committee members to encourage greater participation in the Society’s activities.
  1. Speaker 1:Professor Dharmadasa presented the successful delivery of sola village and encourage SSLES to undertake similar project to help rural farming communities
  2. Speaker 2:Dimuthu Perera presentation about the importance of AI initiation and implementation in Sri Lanka
